MADISON, Wis. (WAOW) - Families who qualify for Wisconsin's Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Supplemental Nutrition Program have access to some extra cash for fresh fruits and veggies.

That announcement was shared in part from the Portage County Health & Human Services Department.

In a release, WIC recipients will get an extra $35 per month, per woman or child, to go specifically towards fruits and vegetables.

Those benefits will be given through the end of September, and are a part of the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).

More than 71,000 Wisconsin women and children are a part of the WIC program.
