MINOCQUA, Wis. (WAOW) — Minocqua Police say an 18-year-old drowned in Mercer Lake on Sunday.

Police say they responded to a 911 call after 8:30 pm on Sunday. That 911 call was made after the victim, identified as Maxwell Pipp of Ixonia, was seen going under water and not emerging for several minutes.

Reportedly, Pipp was on a pontoon boat with friends and decided he wanted to go swimming. While swimming, he was being towed around the lake by holding onto a rope attached to a pontoon boat and not wearing a flotation device.

The incident remains under investigation at this time and no further information was released. It's not clear if officials recovered Pipp's body.
