WAUSAU, Wis. (WAOW) — The United Way of Marathon County is again hosting Turkey Trot in person.

In 2020, the event moved to a virtual format in order to follow protocols to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

It's the 12th year of the event that supports the Marathon County Hunger Coalition.

Two years ago, the annual race had 1,905 participants and collected 2,894 pounds of food.

"And of course as we look in to the future for 2021, we're forecasting right now that 22% of children in Marathon County will have some sort of food insecurity this year, and so for us to raise as much money as we can to continue to move food throughout the county is important," said Ben Lee, the director of community impact with United Way of Marathon County.

A virtual option will still be offered to those that want it.

Registration will open online this summer, the race takes place on November 25.
