WASHINGTON D.C. (WKOW) -- U.S. Representative Ron Kind (D-WI), along with cosponsors from both sides of the aisle, introduced a bill Thursday to combat the obesity epidemic by expanding Medicare options for treatment.
According to a news release from Kind's office, 40% of Americans over 60 are considered medically obese, and the National Institutes of Health rank complications from obesity as the second leading cause of death in the United States.
“Obesity continues to affect millions of Americans, touching the lives of countless families, friends, and neighbors across our nation,” Kind said in the release. “It’s critical that we take steps to tackle this epidemic head on. I’m proud to introduce bipartisan legislation to expand access to obesity treatment options and help those looking to live a healthier lifestyle achieve their goals.”
