LAKE HOLCOMBE (WQOW) – Brock Flater loves basketball.
But a fireworks accident last July caused the Lake Holcombe senior to lose vision in his right eye.
Determined to keep playing the game he loves Flater worked hard during the offseason, adjusting to his new normal.
The persistence paid off as Flater not only continued his basketball career, but reached 1000 points on Friday.
“I had no idea that was an accomplishment I could handle,” said Flater. “But coach put it in my ear last year. This year came along and with the accident, I wasn’t too sure. But I got it, so I’m pretty happy with that.”
“Playing with one eye, there’s a lot of adjustments that need to be made,” said Lake Holcombe’s head coach Joy Webster. “Depth perception especially. But he stuck with it and he developed. He figured it out and is really playing good ball.”
Flater is planning on getting a cornea transplant this spring.
He said doctors are hopeful he can regain some of his vision.
