Number of COVID-19 patients in hospitals falls below 800


(WAOW) — For the first time since the beginning of October, the number of COVID-19 patients receiving treatment in Wisconsin hospitals falls below 800.

Both the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) and the Wisconsin Hospital Association (WHA) report that 761 patients are receiving treatment as of Sunday afternoon.

Of all COVID-19 patients, 169, or 22% are in the ICU.

Currently, COVID-19 patients represent about 9% of all patients in Wisconsin hospitals. During a mid-November peak, the represented over a quarter of all patients in hospitals.

WHA reports that November 16, holds the record high for COVID-19 hospitalizations, at 2,277. That same day also holds the record for ICU patients, with 456.

In North Central Wisconsin, as of Sunday afternoon, there are 71 COVID-19 patients in area hospitals, and they make up around 8.8% of all patients currently hospitalized. Of the 71 patients, 21, or 30% are in the ICU.
