WAUSAU, Wis. (WAOW) -- On Saturday, August 1st, Wausau is holding it's annual Relay for Life event, and it looks a little different this year.
The completely virtual fundraiser included an opening ceremony, multiple participant competitions, survivor recognition, and in the evening, a drive-thru luminaria event.
Even with the changes, enthusiasm and support within the community has not died down.
"Cancer doesn't stop and neither do we, and our relay for life teams all know that as well, so it was really important that we still continue this event and found a way to do it in the virtual world while still abiding to social distance guidelines and COVID guidelines," says American Cancer Society Community Development Manager Alissandra Aderholdt.
Relay for life is encouraging the community to participate on their Facebook page, donate on their website, and take a lap in honor of cancer survivors and those who have passed away from the disease.
