Wausau, Wis. (WAOW) -- Wausau School Board President Tricia Zunker says she is worried for her safety after a Facebook group has surfaced claiming to be unhappy with the Wausau Schools plan to start the year virtual.
The Facebook group has over 600 members so far. Zunker says she called the police because they were planning a protest in front of her house.
She says she empathizes with the group, but doesn't think protesting at her home is the right move.
"I support individuals' first amendment right to express themselves in an appropriate public place," she said. "Protesting outside my private residence though, that goes too far. "
Zunker said she is willing to have conversations with people who may be opposed to the board's decision.
"We welcome phone calls, emails, public comment at meetings," she said. "This is not a new situation. We have been and are continuing to work with the community."
News 9 reached out to several members of the Facebook group. None of them responded.
