Wausau, Wis. (WAOW) -- Friends and coworkers of Brett Lucht mourned his passing Monday.

Lucht died in a drowning accident July 3rd while celebrating the Fourth of July with his family. He was the Vice President and Wausau, Stevens Point Market Manager at Midwest Communications.

His passing came as a shock to many, including coworker Jeff Heinz.

"It was a total shock. It was gut wrenching, disbelief," he said.

Lucht first joined Midwest as a marketing consultant in 1998. He served as Vice President and Market Manager since 2004.

To Bob Jung, another one of his coworkers, he was more than just a boss.

"Sometimes you can love your job but the boss can make you go 'Oh man when will he leave me alone,'" he said. "But not with Brett, and I think I can speak for everyone in the building and say he was well liked."

His friends and coworkers also want him to be remembered as a devoted family man. He is survived by his wife and three daughters.

Coworker John Flesch said he will be missed by many.

"Not just a boss, but a good friend that you enjoyed to have a conversation with," he said. "I'm going to miss that. That's one of the big things I'm going to miss is just a great guy."

A Go Fund Me has been set up to help with funeral expenses and alleviate financial strain from the unexpected loss.
