Wisconsin health officials say a majority of the cases are recovering in their homes, however, several are hospitalized and critically ill.

Gov. Tony Evers has ordered a ban on gatherings of 50 or more people across Wisconsin.

If people do not abide, they could face penalties, but state officials did not elaborate on what those punishments would be.

The order was issued because of concerns of the COVID-19 pandemic. It goes into effect at midnight Monday into Tuesday.

"Keeping folks safe and healthy has to be the top priority," Governor Tony Evers said in a conference.

Evers says businesses and restaurants can stay open as long as they abide by the 50 person rule or at 50 percent capacity, whichever is less.
