Wausau West senior Elizabeth Mikulich won first overall at this year's state snowboarding championship in Lacrosse.
Mikulich placed first in slalom, second in giant slalom and first in border cross, giving her the least amount of points to win the overall trophy.
This was her fourth consecutive year winning the board cross event, but was her best performance to date in slalom.
It's been a long time coming for Mikulich, who's placed second overall the past three years in a row.
"Going into slalom, I was at the top of the hill inspecting the course and I was like, 'okay, this is it'," Mikulich said. "This is what it's going to be based off of and then I went down and it was literally my best run ever. So, then coming down, my mom was like, 'yeah, I've never seen you ride so good before'."
"When I came down, they announced my time and everyone was like, 'you got first', and I was like, 'oh my goodness.' It felt so good to finally win after years of getting second place. It was nice that it was my senior year and I finally got it."
