WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) -- A man accused of delivering heroin that led to the 2018 overdose death of 53-year-old Kelly Ferguson has been sentenced in Marathon County court.
Jermal V Hill will serve five years in prison and four years of extended supervision for charges of manufacturing and delivering heroin and a misdemeanor count of resisting or obstructing an officer.
Hill was given credit for 524 days already served.
As part of his extended supervision, Hill is to maintain absolute sobriety and hold a full-time job or be enrolled in school full time. He also must complete all counseling as deemed appropriate by his parole officer.
The sentence comes after Hill delivered a lethal dose of heroin to Ferguson. Friends say they saw her get into a vehicle with Hill, and after she left the car they observed her struggling to stay upright.
Ferguson then told her friends she was tired and laid down on a couch, where police later found her lifeless body.
An autopsy later confirmed Ferguson died of a dose of heroin laced with cold medicine.
