Hundreds of middle school students attend conference to expand their learning

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WAOW) -- Over 400 middle school students were at The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Friday for a STEAM conference.

STEAM is an approach to learning consisting of science, technology, engineering, arts and math. Friday's event was geared towards females.

With more than 30 programs to choose from, the students were able to engage in hands-on workshops and learn about STEAM career paths.

"As an educator, I think it's fantastic; whether it's materials or supplies or networking with people, meeting students from other schools, having the opportunity to experience something that they wouldn't in a typical classroom," said UWSP Outreach Program Manager in Continuing Education Anna Rogalski.

Students were even able to learn about the art and technology behind YouTube.
