(CNN) -- This Valentine's Day is extra special for one Purple Heart recipient.
104-year-old Major Bill White was hoping to gather about 100 Valentines for his scrapbooks.
The effort went viral as a social media campaign called "Operation Valentine" and was a huge success.
The Marine Corps veteran has received more than 300,000 messages from around the world. The outpouring includes handwritten cards, balloons, flowers and even boxes of chocolates.
"I really don't know what to say or what I can say," White said.
"It's something that I've never had before and probably will never get again," he added.
White received messages from all 50 states and countries abroad. He also received a personal message from the White House signed by President Trump.
