WAUSAU, Wis. (WAOW) -- The two Wausau Mayoral Candidates, Katie Rosenberg and current Mayor Robert Mielke, participated in a forum on Wednesday.
The candidates were asked questions about economic development, budget priorities and how the city should work with municipal partners.
Mielke said he helped improve communications between Wausau and surrounding cities during his first term as mayor, and hopes to continue collaboration with different areas.
"Just had a meeting today about it again. It's the consolidation of city services with those around us in order to save money for our residents. These talks couldn't have been done here just a few years ago," the mayor said.
But Rosenberg, a current Marathon County board supervisor, countered that Mayor Mielke hasn't done much to work with the county.
"The only meeting I recall our Mayor showing up to is a meeting when we were talking about the vehicle registration tax, and he asked the county to give him part of it." Rosenberg also said having good relationships with surround communities is about showing up and having the conversation.
The mayoral election will take place on April 7.
