WAUSAU, Wis. (WAOW) -- The sound of a phone ringing may be something we take for granted, but for Linda Minnihan her landline no longer rings.

She feels like things have gone radio silent, "it makes me wonder how many people you know have tried to call me and gave up," said Linda.

She says she noticed the problem before Christmas. She called Frontier Communications from her cell phone to try and get it fixed. While Linda and her husband have stayed loyal customers she said, "we didn't want to switch we've had them for 40 years we have a cottage we use the same one so we just wanted to deal with one company."

But now she's begging for help.

"I have a brother you know brothers that live out of state they've been trying to call me finally they called my cell and they're upset that the phone is not working. We are fortunate we have a cell phone but up until this, I'm not a big cell phone user I would rather use my landline," Linda said.

But what if your landline is your lifeline?

Linda said, "I don't sleep with my cellphone and so if there's an emergency during the night you know the phone would wake me up."

Bob Barteck, Deputy Chief for the Wausau Fire Department, said this is the first they've heard of residents without service in our area but if emergency services are needed he said, "they'll try to push that and relay that to the public through social media and press releases to as many as they can and then usually in those press releases it will describe an alternative point for contact."

We did reach out to Frontier Communications for a statement but still have not heard back.

Linda Minnihan also told News 9's reporter Amanda Lojewski she knows of others with the same issue but on Frontiers website there are no reported outages.
