Wausau (WAOW) -- Wausau Police Chief Ben Bliven took to Facebook Thursday to answer what he says are common questions surrounding a fatal officer involved shooting mid-January.
Jan. 16 a man was shot and killed by a Wausau officer and Marathon Co. deputy after allegedly shooting at law enforcement and a residents car.
Bliven says he has received messages from residents regarding the investigation and says he will be answering questions into policies and procedures until the investigation is complete.
Bliven says a common question is surrounding why the body camera video hasn't been released.
"Honestly, there is disagreement even within the law enforcement profession as to when video should be released after an officer involved shooting.," Bliven said in a Facebook post.
Bliven says part of the reason video hasn't been released is that they don't have the video. They say the DCI has the body cameras. Bliven says he had watched some so he could get context as to what occurred.
He also says it hasn't been released because of context and the importance of witness information prior to them seeing a video.
