STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WAOW)-- UW-Stevens Point is giving children in the community to the opportunity to compose music with no experience.
Through their Very Young Composers program, 34 fifth-grade students from schools in Stevens Point, Plover, Bancroft, and Marshfield are creating their own musical compositions.
The compositions are for six to seven instruments.
The students create their own compositions with the assistance of volunteer UWSP students.
"We help them by getting their ideas into music notation and we're very very careful to do that so that the ideas that are part of their composition are their ideas and not our ideas and then we perform their pieces," said Robert Rosen who is the executive director of Very Young Composers of Central Wisconsin.
The Very Young Composers program has been offered in Central Wisconsin for 10 years and the school hopes to offer it again next year.
In those 10 years, there have been more than 100 UWSP students that have volunteered their time and more than 300 students have participated in the program.
