WAUSAU, Wis. (WAOW) -- We've all seen the ads; "For the price of a cup of coffee, you can make a difference." Now, you can make a difference while keeping the coffee.
Common Grounds Espresso on the intersection of Bridge Street and First Street in Wausau sells everything from Espresso to bubble tea.
All proceeds from the kiosk go to Bridge Street Mission, located just across the parking lot.
"Our mission is this; Christ centered help for those in need."Todd VanRyn | Executive Director of Bridge Street Mission
Bridge Street Mission provides housing for up to 52 people in Central Wisconsin, support groups for those battling addiction and a meal every day for those in need.
Christine Lerch learned about the mission as a customer in the kiosk drive-through. Later, she went back to ask where the greatest need was and how she can help. Tuesday, she was already volunteering, serving lunch from the kitchen.
Christine is just one example of this coffee kiosk's unexpected impact.
"We set an original budget of about $24,000 a year," said VanRyn. But when tips turn into donations, that number goes up. "I think we've been averaging about $35 a day just in donations."
Multiply that by working days in the month and it's about an extra $700, going back to the mission.
Still, the greatest need is for volunteers. You can find out more here.
