(WAOW) -- The state of Wisconsin is awarding nearly $10,000 to workers affected by the sudden closure of the Semco plant in Merrill in December.
The $9,375 Rapid Response Dislocation Grant, issued by the state Department of Workforce Development, will help provide for more extensive job search services for the 141 former workers. The grant will also assist them with basic re-employment services, such as career fairs, resume prep courses and interviews.
"This grant will help provide additional services to the workers impacted by this business closure," DWD Secretary-Designee Caleb Frostman said via statement in the release. "The unexpected loss of employment through a mass layoff is often traumatic and economically devastating for workers and their families. DWD and its partners stand ready to continue assisting the dislocated workers in every way possible."
