A drier weather pattern for the weekend

Today: Cloudy with rain during the morning, mixing with snow in the Northwoods with an inch or two accumulation. Blustery and turning colder during the afternoon.
High: 40 early, then falling through the 30s. Wind: Becoming NW 10-20 with gusts to 25

Tonight: Cloudy skies gradually turning partly cloudy.
Low: 19 Wind: NW around 20 diminishing to 5-10

Friday: Partly cloudy to sunny and cool.
High: 35 Wind: West 5-10

Soggy weather to begin today, then it looks like a nice stretch of dry weather heading into the weekend. Temperatures will be fairly seasonal as well.

The steady rain will come to an end around mid-morning but some scattered light showers or drizzle will linger into the midday time frame. In the Northwoods, the rain will change to snow and there could be an inch or so accumulation around Phillips, Tomahawk, and Rhinelander by midday. Glidden, Minocqua, and Eagle River could end up with a couple of inches of slushy snow. Farther north towar Hurley, it could be as much a 5 inches of snow. A WINTER WEATHER ADVIOSRY is in effect for Iron county through 6 p.m. This evening. After the rain and snow ends, it will be a blustery and cool day with temps falling though the 30s. Winds will be out of the northwest at 10 to 20 mph with gusts over 25 mph at times.

The clouds should break up a bit more for tomorrow. More sunshine and less wind will make it feel fairly nice on Friday but high temps will likely remain below normal, only reaching the low to mid 30s. With a mix of sun and clouds on Saturday, high temps should hit the mid to upper 30s. Suday should be dry as well with the mercury topping out around 40.

The weather will start to change early next week. A weak cold front moving in from the northwest on Monday will bring more clouds and a slight chance of rain or snow showers. Even with more clouds, highs temps should be close to 40. A strong low pressure system moving through the upper Midwest on Tuesday could track far enough north to bring rain and snow to our area, but it is not certain yet. As of now, I am forecasting a 30% chance that some of the heavier rain and snow could hit our area. Otherwise, it will be a little cooler again for the middle of next week with highs only in the 30s.

Have a very nice Thursday! Meteorologist Justin Loew, 4:30 a.m. 21-November-2019
