RHINELANDER Wis. (WAOW) — The Rhinelander Police Department was presented with a K-9 on Wednesday night honoring fallen Everest Metro Detective Jason Weiland.
The dog was given to the department by Crossroads K-9 Rescue. His name is Jason and wears the same badge number as Detective Weiland did.
“The best way to honor Jason is by helping his brothers and sisters in blue,” said Sean Dumais with Crossroads K-9.
Weiland’s wife and two daughters presented K-9 Jason to his new handler Officer Mark Raddatz. Raddatz said he always wanted to be a K-9 handler and “it’s extra special to be able to carry on the legacy of Jason through my partner.”
Kara Weiland, Jason’s wife, said she hopes K-9 Jason and Officer Raddatz have a long and impactful career.
“I know Jason will be watching over him and making sure he gets some really good busts,” Weiland said.
