Police highlight importance for victims, families after traumatic events

WAUSAU, Wis. (WAOW) — Wausau police spoke about the importance of recovery for victims and their families Tuesday, just days removed from the deadly Pine Grove Cemetery shooting incident.

Captain Ben Graham says a victim resource unit assists victims and their immediate families affected by traumatic events.

“Healing happens in relationships and when something like this happens, it’s unplanned,” Captain Graham said. “You don’t know the process and, while you’re grieving, it’s important to have somebody come alongside you and help you understand what that process is going to be.”

Chaplains or priests are also assigned to families to help with the recovery process. Captain Graham added the free resources are immediate and available for however long victims and/or their families need during the healing process.
