MARATHON CITY, Wis. (WAOW) — For fire prevention week, the Marathon City Fire Department went the extra mile to make sure members of the community stay safe.
For the second year, the department teamed with Pizza Market in Marathon City to deliver pizzas to residents on Tuesday.
However, pizzas weren’t the only thing delivered.
“If you order pizza tonight, the Marathon City Fire Department will deliver the pizza to your residence,” Fire Chief Michael Tylinski said. “We will also replace the batteries in your smoke detectors and make sure they’re working properly.”
Last year the department delivered around 50 pizzas and easily matched that number this year.
“It was amazing how quickly they can deliver the pizzas because they know every address,” said Lori Ludwig, Owner of Pizza Market.
Chief Tylinski added that the deliveries are a fun way to encourage residents to keep fire prevention in mind, because fire-related incidents can happen to anyone at anytime.
“It’s a reminder for everyone to take this serious,” Chief Tylinski said. “It’s serious that you have working smoke detectors in your homes and fire extinguishers, and make sure everything is properly working.”
This event also serves as a way to bridge the gap between first responders and members of the community.
“Anytime we can get out in the community and help promote our cause and work with the people, I think it’s a plus,” Chief Tylinski stated.
“I just really think it’s important to take care of each other,” Ludwig said. “If you have an opportunity to help to raise awareness then you should.”
