The Women’s Community hosts Safefur Homes Dog Walk

WAUSAU, Wis. (WAOW) — Domestic violence affects all members of a household, including dogs and other pets.

This issue was brought to light Sunday afternoon by The Women’s Community (TWC) at the Safefur Homes Dog Walk at Marathon Park. The purpose of the event is to learn about domestic violence and it’s affect on pets, what resources are available, and how you can help by fostering dogs and pets that are in need of a safer shelter.

“Even if the pet is not being abused physically any time that we as pet owners are stressed, afraid, sad, all of our emotions also affect our animals,” said Cindy Steinke, trainer for K-9 Elementary.

Since October is domestic violence awareness month, TWC is working to spread awareness through different events in the community.
