Bomb squad robot deployed to execute search warrant on suspected shooter’s home

UPDATE (WAOW) — A resident of the apartment complex on Fullmer St. in Schofield tells News 9 that residents were told they wouldn’t be able to stay at the apartment complex tonight.

City hall has opened up for those who need a place to stay.


WAUSAU, Wis. (WAOW) — The Everest Metro Police Department, Wausau Police Department and Marathon County Bomb Squads are at the scene of the suspected shooter’s apartment, executing search warrants.

Our reporter on the scene reported hearing a loud bang shortly after she pulled up.

Police on the scene mentioned they were executing warrants on the suspected shooter’s apartment, the garage and a storage unit.

Our reporter mentioned seeing the bomb squad’s robot being deployed.


We now know more details on the Thursday morning shootings at Pine Grove Cemetery in Wausau.

In a press conference, Wausau Police Chief Ben Bliven indicated that one person died at the scene of the shootings. Two additional victims were hospitalized, but no word yet on their injuries or condition.

Chief Bliven said the suspect, an unidentified Schofield man, was a former cemetery employee. He remains in custody and will make his initial appearance in court Friday.

The press conference concluded with officials saying more details will be released Friday.


UPDATE (WAOW) — The Wausau Police Department will hold a press conference at 2 p.m. to provide additional information on the shootings at Pine Grove Cemetery Thursday morning.

Per the release, the Schofield apartment complex fire is also connected to the shootings.

Everest Metro will also provide information at the presser, the release said.


(WAOW) — A press release from the Wausau Police Department has confirmed that a person has been taken into custody in the shooting near Pine Grove Cemetery.

Per the release, Wausau Police also confirmed “several victims,” but did not disclose the extent of their injuries. Additionally, officials said there is no believed active threat to the community.

Wausau Police is still gathering information on the incident and ask for “patience on non-emergency calls for service as we devote significant resources to this investigation,” per the release.

Curling Way has been temporarily shut down to non-emergency traffic, officials told a News 9 crew at the scene.

Officials plan to provide additional information by 12:30 pm.

UPDATE: Officials are still investigating the shooting scene at Pine Grove Cemetery where multiple gunshot victims were reported Thursday morning.

News 9 can confirm that two people were taken to Aspirus Hospital. No word on the severity of their injuries at this time.

SCHOFIELD, Wis. (WAOW) — Multiple crews responded to a reported shooting Thursday morning near Pine Grove Cemetery.

A News 9 crew on scene says officials have arrested a suspect at 1920 Curling Way, and that a Buick vehicle was spotted at the scene. Officials have blocked off the area.

Marathon County Sheriffs, along with the Wausau Police and Fire Departments, continue to investigate at  the scene.
