State Sen. Tom Tiffany announces run for Congress to replace Rep. Sean Duffy

SCHOFIELD, Wis. (WAOW) — Republican State Sen. Tom Tiffany made several stops on Tuesday around the 7th Congressional District, including Merrill Steel in Schofield. At each place, he announced his plans to run for the seat.

Representative Sean Duffy is resigning from the 7th Congressional District seat at the end of the month.

State Sen. Tom Tiffany says that he hopes to keep the seat red.

“We’re gonna run for congress,” Tom Tiffany said. “It has really been the greatest privilege in my life to be able to represent the people of the 12th Senate District, and I hope to do the same for the people of the 7th Congressional District here in the state of Wisconsin.”

Tiffany’s sister, Lou Tiffany-Welter, also spoke at the gathering on behalf of her brother. She addressed if anything would be different in the transition from representing the Northwoods to representing the entire state on a national level.

“For him to be able to take northern Wisconsin values and ideas to Washington, it’s not that different than anywhere else,” Lou Tiffany-Welter said. “I think it’s just continuing to support the same role models and continuing the same mission we’re all on.”

In addition to State Sen. Tom Tiffany’s family, Republican State Rep. Patrick Snyder was in attendance, along with several supporters from the community.

“Do I see myself in Tom? Yes,” supporter Patricia Rondeau said. “He’s a down to earth person who puts one shoe on at a time in the morning and he’s like all of us.”

Tiffany said he understands how big of a transition it would be if he’s elected, and he plans to continue to work for everyone in the Badger State.

“There’s been too much I in Washington,” Tiffany stated. “We need more we, as in we the people. We the people in Wisconsin will be heard. “I made sure the voices from northern Wisconsin were heard. For those that know me, you know I will do the same in Washington.”

Governor Evers still has not announced when the election will be held for the seat. As of right now no Democrats have announced their run.
