UPDATE — News 9 is sad to inform that Luna passed away Wednesday morning.
According to a press release from the Stevens Point Police Department, Luna suffered multiple seizures Monday and was taken to the Stevens Point Animal Hospital Luna before being transported to the Animal Referral Center Fox Valley.
When Luna arrived to the ARC at approximately 11 p.m. Monday, she was unresponsive, per the release.
Luna’s fight ended at approximately 2 a.m. Wednesday, the release said.
Per the release, Luna was one of the Stevens Point Police Department’s first K-9 Officers and began her career in April 2018. She lived with her handler, Lead Officer J.D. Ballew, and his family, it adds.
“In Luna’s, short career she served the community honorably and was loved by everyone she came in contact with,” the Stevens Point Police Department said in the release.
Luna, a Stevens Point Police Department K-9, is hospitalized with multiple organ failure.
According to the Department, Luna was rushed to an Appleton hospital for treatment on a suspected toxic ingestion.
A veterinarian informed assistant chief Tom Zenner via phone call Tuesday.
