Marshfield Area Pet Shelter breaks ground on new facility

MARSHFIELD (WAOW)– The Marshfield Area Pet Shelter (MAPS) held a ceremonial ground breaking for their new facility on Thursday.

The new building will be located on Downwind Drive in the Air Business Park and will combine their two facilities. They currently have an intake facility on 29th Street and their adoption center is located inside the Marshfield Mall.

The new facility will have rooms to isolate sick animals, eight free roaming cat rooms with an outdoor patio for the cats, eleven dog kennels with indoor/outdoor access and the outdoor kennels will have heated floors. It will also have plenty of room for storage, a conference room for educational programs and a second floor that will have a staff break room and bathroom.

“Ever since our first fundraiser in 2012 we felt that after we saw how many people we attracted for that first fundraiser which was over 800 that we knew at that point that the community was waiting for something like a humane outlet for all of our homeless animals in our area,” said Karen Rau the Executive Director for MAPS.

MAPS has raised 1.3 million dollars out of their 1.5 million dollar goal. Construction will begin immediately and the hope is for the building to open in early 2020.
