PORTAGE (WKOW) — A bone fragment discovered in landscaping over the weekend prompted Columbia County’s sheriff to remind the public Thursday of a murder victim whose body has not yet been found.
A homeowner found the bone fragment Sunday in Harmony Grove among landscaping material, Columbia County Sheriff Roger Brandner said in a press release. A K-9 with the Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office checked the property and a nearby construction site and found no other human remains.
“In order to protect the integrity of the investigation, the location and further description of the human remains are being withheld at this time,” Brandner wrote. The sheriff’s office said it is working with the Columbia County Medical Examiner’s Office, State Crime Laboratory, Odontology and Anthropology to learn more about the bone.
The Sheriff took the opportunity to remind the public the body of Beth Kutz, a murder victim from 2000, has yet to be found.
Kutz’s husband was convicted of her murder.
She was last seen in DeForest.
Those with information about Kutz’s murder can submit a tip on Facebook or call Crime Stoppers 1-800-293-8477.
