WAUSAU, Wis. (WAOW) — The Marathon County Alcohol & Other Drug partnered with Roberts & Associates Physical Therapy to host an educational forum on prevention of opioid abuse and addiction.
However, this meeting differed from past meetings because the focus was on how physical therapy can serve as an alternative to deal with the pains opioids are initially prescribed to treat.
Officials say you’re able to request a physical therapist through your doctor instead of getting prescribed pain medicine, which can contribute to ending the ongoing crisis.
“Physical therapists don’t utilize medication,” Karen Monarski, Robers & Associates Physical Therapist said. “We use movement strategies, we use activity modification, and exercises to address specific impairments that may be contributing to the pain.”
She mentioned physical therapy is a low-risk and highly effective alternative.
