SentryWorld puts finishing touches on course before Championship

The 71st U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship is just days away and SentryWorld has been preparing for the tournament for over a year and a half.

“This is tremendous…this is hopefully going to put us back on the map,” Assistant Superintendent Dustin Schneider said.

SentryWorld is just three days out from the practice rounds and there is still work to be done.

“This week has really just been a lot of little details,” LPGA Golf Professional Katie Kreuser said.
“The signage is going up, tee markers are going up—just getting all of the different areas prepared and ready to go.”

SentryWorld has four to five people hand watering the greens every night and employees out for morning maintenance at 4:45.

“We have to cut 40 acres of plane surface in the morning–so that’s a challenge,” Schneider said. “We’re finishing edging our bunkers right now…putting the finishing details where the camera will pick up on things. We want to make sure everything looks great for the golfers and for the audience.”

Championship prep work is a little different than daily maintenance, but the intense grooming can be useful for the future of SentryWorld.

“The daily maintenance is we can have the whole day to work on everything, whereas the championship, we’re going to have to get everything done within two-two and a half hours,” Schneider said. “It’s a huge step for this whole golf course.”

The Championship beings July 22.
