Rhinelander (WAOW) — A former director of the Ascension St. Mary’s Hospital Foundation is accused of stealing nearly $46,000 from the foundation.
Officials say 61-year-old Kimberly Baltus admitted to stealing the money between Jan. 2017 and Oct. 2018 because of financial hardships.
Baltus allegedly told police she originally intended to pay the money back, but soon realized she would never be able to.
According to court documents, Baltus wrote 41 checks out to cash and cashed them herself.
Court records show Ascension St. Mary’s Hospital hired Crow LLP to do an internal investigation into stolen money.
Officials say money was also taken from Sacred Heart Hospital Foundation.
Baltus faces up to 10 years in prison if found guilty of the theft.
