Area police weigh in on local bomb threat discovered by the CIA

ROME, Wis. (WAOW) — The town of Rome is still in shock after police said they received information from the Central Intelligence Agency on Tuesday.

According to police, the CIA received an email about a potential bomb threat. The suspect, 33-year-old Chad Wawrzyniak, said he made an explosive device to kill a Wisconsin Rapids man.

“The CIA doesn’t contact police departments regularly so that’s surprising,” Rome Police Department Sergeant Adam Anderson said. “When there’s an explosive device involved we’re going to notify multiple other agencies, and we’re going to use caution when responding to that scene.”

Dane County Sheriff’s Department Bomb Squad, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Town of Rome Police Department are all involved in the ongoing investigation.
