WASHINGTON, D.C. (WAOW) – A Schofield Jefferson Award honoree is in the nation’s capital.
Steve Goetsch and his late wife started Forrest Goetsch Charities– to honor their son.
The 14-year old died while at a cross country practice at D.C. Everest Junior High in 2009.
The charity has raised $250,000.
The money benefits schools, police and fire departments, and students.
Goetsch is being honored with the Multiplying Good 2019 Jefferson Award for his impact on the local community.
The Jefferson Awards began 47 years ago.
Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Senator Robert Taft, Jr. and Sam Beard created the honor to recognize people for their public service.
