Arpin (WAOW) — A Wood Co. deputy was shot by another deputy, according to the Wood County Sheriff Shawn Becker.
Becker says officers were called to a home in Arpin on reports of a 32-year-old suicidal male. He says while deputies were talking to a crisis interventionist with Wood Co. the man grabbed a knife.
Officials say a struggle with the man followed and a deputy fired shots which hit the man, another deputy and a third person.
“The Wood County Sheriff’s Department would like to offer our condolences to the family who lost a loved one,
and wish the other injured person a full recovery,” said Becker.
The officer hit was released from the hospital.
The deputies involved are a six and 16-year veteran of the Wood Co. Sheriff’s Department. Both have completed crisis intervention team training, a 40-hour training course.
Both deputies are on paid administrative leave which is standard protocol.
The Department of Justice is leading the investigation.
“We would like to thank all of the law enforcement agencies, first responders, emergency medical personnel and
others for their assistance and continued support,” says Becker. “We would also like to thank the community for their support as the Wood County Sheriff’s Department moves forward from this tragic incident. The countless emails, phone calls and messages of well wishes our staff has received are appreciated more than we can express.”
