SCHOFIELD (WAOW) — Another Marathon County fishing spot will be off limits this summer. Due to a draw down of the Eau Clair Flowage in Schofield, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is putting a fishing closure in place from June 10 until October. The closure will stretch from the Schofield Dam to County Road X.
The city of Schofield decided to draw down the flowage in order to do infrastructure work, including maintenance on the dam.
The halt on the fishing season is necessary to protect species in the area, which due to high concentrations, will be vulnerable to fishing and over harvesting.
Although fishing will be off limits, the area is still open for other recreation.
“I mean people can still recreate. If they choose to go boating, they can boat on the channel if they want to,” said DNR Fisheries Biologist Tim Parks.
Anglers will still be able to fish on the west side of the dam and in Lake Wausau.
