WAUSAU (WAOW)– Theresa Haase is the organizer of the first-ever Wausau Area Silver Pageant.
For her volunteer efforts she is recognized with a Jefferson Award.
Haase is the Community Relations Director at Mountain Terrace Senior Living.
She says the women she meets there inspire her.
“So often, I hear about their incredible experiences and then they are gone. And so are their stories,” Haase says.
So, she set out to develop a pageant to allow women 75 and older to share their stories.
In February, more than 700 people filled the auditorium at Wausau East High School to watch it.
There were video presentations for the 11 contestants who took to the stage to share their stories and talents.
Haase’s boss Sheridan Peterson says the event exceeded his expectations.
“Absolutely amazing–there was laughter–tears–and silence– the pinnacle of the evening,” Sheridan Peterson says.
Haase calls the pageant a life-changing event.
“We are different people after experiencing that and meeting all those women,” Theresa Haase says.
She is already making plans for next year.
