ABBOTSFORD (WAOW) — We’re learning new details into an overnight police shooting in Abbotsford.
Authorities said they were investigating a person at the Home Motel when the suspect attempted to drive away from police and ended up hitting the officer.
They say the officer fired their service weapon and hit the subject.
The suspect continued to drive away from police and later ran away on foot, according to a press release from the Wisconsin Department of Justice.
“Law enforcement immediately began life-saving measures on the subject, and paramedics later transported the subject to a nearby hospital,” the release said.
The suspect is expected to survive the injuries.
No officers were hurt in the incident.
The officer who fired the weapon has been placed on paid-administrative leave, which is department policy when a service weapon is fired.
The Department of Criminal Investigation is leading the investigation.
No other details were immediately available.
