Documents: J Gumbo’s owes $92,000 in back rent
WAUSAU (WAOW) – Owners of a Cajun restaurant in downtown Wausau owe more than $92,000 in delinquent rent payments, according to an eviction suit filed in Marathon County Court.
Heinemann Venture LLC, which is connected to Compass Properties, filed the notice on April 5 against J Gumbo’s.
Documents claim more than $65,000 of the rent is more than 90 days past due.
Heinemann Venture LLC is also requesting future rent payments.
Keith Malwitz, who is listed as a tenant, declined to comment when reached by phone.
The landlord tells News 9 an Asian fusion restaurant will take J Gumbo’s place. It’s called Lemongrass and the owners also own Gloss Nail Bar in Rib Mountain.
According to J Gumbo’s corporate website, the chain operates in 12 states, but Wausau was the only Wisconsin location.
A damage hearing has been scheduled for May 7.
