WAUSAU (WAOW)– Empowering women to run for political office was the topic of a round table discussion Tuesday at UW-Stevens Point at Wausau. The talk was hosted by a panel of women who hold elected office in Portage and Marathon counties and surrounding cities.
Questions the panel answered ranged from how do to declare your candidacy, to what type of campaigning you should do during an election.
“As women we’re expected to work, have children, raise our kids and have families and to try and add running for office and holding office is very intimidating. I would just like women that are thinking about it to know that those strengths and characteristics that we have give us kind of a unique perspective and a really good place to hold office and help make policy” Ashley Lange who serves District 9 for the Marathon County Board said.
Lange added that women who are interested in running for political office, shouldn’t be afraid to reach out to women who already hold an elected position for advice.
