Colby, Wisc. (WAOW) — An Eagle Scout cord that started as a Christmas present, lead to unforeseen obstacles in Colby.
In the months since December, the Lilly family has met with the Colby High School Principal, Superintendent, and School Board. All of them, saying Nevada Lilly won’t be able to wear his Eagle Scout cord at graduation.
“I was just really excited to wear it,” said Nevada Lily, who spent his last 12 years working towards his Eagle Scout recognition.
Cheryl Pleckelman, the Colby School Board Vice President, said it all has to do with authority and dress code. “If we say he can wear it, we are undermining our superintendent’s authority,” said Ploeckelman. “If we break policy then policy means nothing.”
In the meantime, Nevada and his mother said they hope the school will change their decision.
Nevada’s mother, Dulcie Lilly, said, “Either he is going to keep it in his pocket or I’m going to keep it in my pocket or dad will keep it in his while we are there.”
