UPDATE: Male pulled from car in Chippewa River dies

Chippewa Falls (WQOW) – According to Chippewa Falls Fire & Emergency Services, the male pulled from the vehicle was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Fire officials say the DNR was on scene, and said the vehicle must be removed in 30 days. Fire officials said the vehicle is still in the water, and won’t be removed until the Chippewa Dam can be shutdown and river conditions improve.

Chippewa Falls (WQOW) – One person was taken to the hospital after being pulled from their vehicle that was in the Chippewa River.

According to the Chippewa Falls Fire Department, the call came in around 8:28 a.m. of a car in the Chippewa River just south of the Pumphouse Road boat landing.

When firefighters arrived, they saw a car in the water 150 yards down river from the boat landing. A person standing there said they thought there was a person in the car.

Divers and firefighters put boats into the water to rescue the male. They say the high water levels made it hard to get to the male.

Fire officials tried getting Xcel to close the Chippewa Dam, but they couldn’t because of the amount of water coming out of Lake Wissota.

They were eventually able to get him out and he was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital.

There is no word on his condition or what caused him to go into the river.
