SCHOFIELD, Wis. (WAOW) — The winter weather conditions have been a major contributing factor to crashes the last few months, causing an increase in business for many auto repair shops including Fred Mueller Body Shop.
Fred Mueller Body Shop Manager Steve Rainville said this winter has been the busiest he’s seen in 15 years. His shop is booked out for over a month already, and many of his mechanics are having to work extended hours to keep up with the amount of cars coming through the shop.
“Estimates range anywhere from three-to-10 thousand dollars per crash,” said Steve Rainville. “It’s gonna get up there, and that might even raise some of the premiums so you’ve gotta take it easy. Slow down, and if you’re in a hurry, my suggestion is leave a little earlier.”
Rainville said some of the main contributing factors to the crashes include drivers speeding during harsh weather conditions, following too closely, deer and the height of the snow banks.
“The snow banks are high. People are pulling out and nosing out, and they’re not seeing if traffic is coming. Also, deer can’t run through the deep snow, so they’re taking easy passages which is the roads. So be careful of the deer. They’re still out there.” Rainville said.
The shop is encouraging drivers to please slow down, pay attention while driving, and keep your eyes on the road at all times.
