“We’re not really intimidated by their undefeated season. We have had a pretty stellar one, only losing to some D1 teams, and an early one to Stratford due to having some illnesses. So, I think we’re pretty confident with how our level of play is right now,” said the team’s lone senior, Mackenzie Krach.
The Newman Catholic Cardinals girls basketball team is state bound for the second straight year.
They breezed their the playoffs, and haven’t lost a game since December 4th.
Next up for the Cardinals: a date with undefeated Clayton in the state semi’s on Friday morning. But the girls say they aren’t afraid of anybody, regardless of record.
“Just the experience. Last year we started off flustered, not really settled in. So just having that experience, and being used to the court a little bit is definitely going to help,” junior guard Julia Seidel said.
Junior guard Lauren Shields said, “We just know that we can play with any team if we really put our minds to it. I think that showed that sometimes we play against really tough teams, but that’s only going to make us better.”
If the Cardinals win, they’d advance to the state championship Saturday morning in Green Bay.
