WAUSAU (WAOW) — A tow truck is one of the first calls you make if you’re stuck, in an accident or just can’t get your car to start. With the roads turning slick and icy, drivers have been extra busy.
“Today was bad and tomorrow could be a lot worse with the wind chills,” said Mark Bradfish of Jerry’s Towing in Wausau.
Local tow truck drivers said most of their calls have been because of slide-ins and people going too fast or tailgating. They said most of these issues can be prevented.
“The best advice is if you don’t have to go anywhere, just stay home,” said Joe Rader of Joe Rader Towing. “If you do have to go out or go to work, just take your time and go slow.”
Both drivers said slowing down not only keeps you safe, but helps them do their jobs. They said they want to remind drivers to slow down and move over whenever you see emergency vehicles on the side of the road. Doing those two simple things can save lives.
If you are out on the roads in the extreme conditions, make sure to pack any emergency equipment you might need in case you get stuck.
