Investigators looking at call logs, photos and videos stored on Jake Patterson’s phone

Barron County (WQOW) – New documentation filed in Barron County Tuesday shows authorities have examined call logs, photos and videos stored on the cellphone of the man accused of kidnapping Jayme Closs and murdering her parents.

The search warrant documents do not reveal what exactly was on Jake Patterson’s phone, but it does say the evidence could be used to determine the “chronological context” of what happened.

Patterson allegedly confessed to killing Jim and Denise Closs and kidnapping Jayme on October 15. Police said she escaped Patterson’s home in Douglas County January 10, 88 days after she was taken into captivity.

According to a search warrant affidavit, the red Ford Taurus Patterson was driving was searched by the FBI’s evidence response team the next day and the cellphone was found on the front seat.

The Wisconsin Department of Justice analyzed the phone. The documents say investigators are looking at a variety of things – including any evidence of where the phone was during the months-long search for Jayme.

Patterson returns to court on Monday. If convicted of the charges against him he will spend the rest of his life in prison.
