Teen charged in shooting that pierced apartment wall, struck sleeping boy

A Franklin man has been charged in a shooting that injured a boy who was sleeping in an adjacent apartment.

Michael Montey, 19, faces more than 12 years in prison if convicted in the shooting and up to six years if convicted on a charge of felony bail jumping.

A charging document filed Tuesday said that Montey was visiting a friend at the apartment building on the 2400 block of West National Avenue last week when the shot was fired.

The bullet pierced the floor and struck the 12-year-old boy who was sleeping in a downstairs unit.

Montey was out on bail in connection with a felony drug case when the shooting occurred, court records show.
