MARSHFIELD (WAOW)– A long time volunteer and co-founder of Shirley’s House of Hope in Marshfield is honored with a Jefferson Award.

Julie Cravillion spent several years raising money for the domestic abuse shelter.

It opened eight years ago and she volunteers on a full-time basis,

“My heart  just broke for women caught in domestic violence situations,” Julie Cravillion said.

The house runs a nine month program for women and their children.

“They take classes, write resumes and receive love and support,” Cravillion explained.

Sue Poole is also a co-founder of the shelter.

She says Cravillion’s passion for the project is never ending.

“I can’t believe how she comes in every day so energetic and enthusiastic and does whatever it takes,” co-founder Sue Poole said.

This year they hope to raise $400,000 for the shelter and a new recovery center.

Cravillion says the rewards come from knowing the house changes lives.

“That is where my heart is and where I want to be. There is hope and joy in helping others.” Cravillion said.
