STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WAOW)– A partnership with TDS Telecom may lead to faster internet speeds for residents in Stevens Point.
The internet provider wants to put down fiber optic cables throughout the city, which would provide internet speeds up to one gigabit.
Stevens Point Mayor Mike Wiza hopes faster internet speeds will attract more businesses to the city. The mayor also thinks competition in the market will benefit residents.
“The benefit for everyone is pretty obvious. You get choices and because there’s competition, rates tend to be lower, services tend to be better and customer service tends to better,” Wiza said.
If the deal goes through, Mayor Wiza estimates services will be up and running within the next two years.
